What is ConnectTherapy ?

ConnectTherapy™ is a total body, whole person approach, to your problem. How different regions and systems of the body are connected. How the body and mind are connected. How therapists and patients are connected. How we as humans are physically, emotionally and socially, connected.
It means we recognize that there are many influences that contribute to how you move, and how you feel.
— Dr LJ Lee

Dr Linda-Joy Lee created this unique approach and teaching framework after many years of physiotherapy study and post graduate training and then trying to treat and strengthen her own body after many past injuries – both sporting and motor vehicle accidents.

Dr LJ Lee developed the Thoracic Ring Approach and then over the years developed her current International teaching model with the ConnectTherapy Series. This is part of a larger teaching framework of short courses plus certification levels for therapists wanting more.

So, what is a Driver ? What is a Re-Set exercise ? Why do I need a cue check? These are commonly asked questions and are terms developed because of the clinical reasoning process that accompanies the ConnectTherapy model of treatment.

A Driver is a unique component to the model and it encompasses the whole body approach that defines ConnectTherapy. A Driver is a region of the body that may be affecting your nervous system’s patterns of recruitment, it may be mechanically affecting the loading in other regions of your body and most importantly your driver may NOT be painful.

Drivers allow your therapist a ‘way in’ to your body. Treating the driver will relax some muscles, will allow other joints to now move comfortable and freely and will highlight which areas require treatment to keep your driver happy.

Treatment still involves all of our physiotherapy skill sets that you have previously had success with , but now we have a few extra tools in the bag. Personally the framework and assessment process is the major tool and allows for a sequenced approach to your treatment and in developing your tailored exercise plan.

Your cue check is a movement that does just that – checks whether the cue you have developed with your therapist is helping the driver to function optimally.

Your Re-set exercise is a powerful tool that does as it says. It helps your driver to re-set after any aggravating activity that has caused your driver to ‘get grumpy’. I know this is a Sarah term but sometimes your driver just needs a rest, re-set and you a re ready to go ! mmmmm sounds a lot like a whole body approach because sometimes one of our drivers could be emotional stress, or a factor influencing your driver could be fatigue.

All people and their physical body’s are different and unique. Our goal is to provide an assessment and treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Your ongoing exercise program will also address these needs and bridge the gap between treatment and rehab and then your other movement goals.

You can follow this pathway in our studio with 1:1 sessions, progressing to studio sessions 1:2 as you work on your Cue checks and reset exercises and build endurance. Next are small group physio classes to continue this endurance and then off to the broader Fitness Pilates classes run by our studio team.
